Large holiday houses with a pool and hot tub: what to check
Booking a large group house with a pool, hot tub and sauna in Somerset: pool seasons, private versus shared pools, hot tub hours and winter spa weekends.
Ask whether the pool is private or shared
“House with a pool” can mean a pool your group has to itself, or a pool shared with other guests on the same site. Both can work well, but your group should know which one it is booking.
At Little Upton, The Pictureworks, Upton Bourn Lodge and Vedalworks each have their own private heated outdoor pool. The Threshing Barn does not have its own pool; its guests use the heated pool in the walled garden, with a private 2.5-hour session for the house every day from May to September.
Check the pool season for your dates
Outdoor pools in England are seasonal. Before you promise a swim to the group, check the dates against your stay:
- The Pictureworks: private heated outdoor pool, Easter–October
- Upton Bourn Lodge: private heated outdoor pool, Easter–October
- Vedalworks: private heated outdoor pool, May–September
- Walled-garden pool (shared, with a private daily session): May–September
Outside those months, plan the weekend around the hot tub and sauna instead.
Hot tubs and saunas run all year
Every Little Upton house has its own private hot tub and sauna, available year-round, so an autumn or winter weekend still has a spa side to it. The Pictureworks has a private spa room with a hot tub, sauna, steam room and heated seats.
Hot tubs close at 10pm. Plan the evening so the late soak happens before then, and move the music indoors afterwards.
Think about who will use the water
Children must be supervised around pools and hot tubs at all times, and dogs are not allowed in pool areas. If anyone in your group has limited mobility, Vedalworks is single level with no steps between the house, the pool and the hot tub. Tell us about your group’s needs before booking.
Make the spa part of the plan
A spa afternoon is an easy anchor for a big weekend: a swim or soak after lunch, treatments in the house, then dinner together. Massages and treatments are paid extras, booked directly with our local suppliers.
